Timex has unveiled the Q Timex 1971 Velocity Reissue, a modern reinterpretation of one of its electric watches from the 1970s that draws influence from the era's popular motor racing culture. While maintaining a retro aesthetic, the new watch incorporates modern materials and an upgraded quartz movement.
Powering the watch is a modern quartz movement, providing a timekeeping upgrade from the electrical movements used in the 1970s original. The integrated strap is crafted from perforated synthetic rubber meant to evoke the look of tire treads found on vintage racing tires.
With the 1971 Velocity Reissue, Timex combines the sporty aesthetic from one of its historic electric watches with contemporary materials and construction for enhanced durability and timekeeping precision. The overall design pays tribute to the "golden age" of motor racing in the 1970s.
Timex is producing the Q Timex 1971 Velocity Reissue as a limited-edition product, though precise quantities have not been specified. Pricing and availability will be determined by individual retailers.

The case measures 36mm in diameter and is constructed from stainless steel with a combination of polished and circular brushed finishes. Topping the case is a friction-fit aluminum ring marked with an elapsed time scale typically used for timing laps or races.
In a nod to the original model's acrylic crystal, the Velocity Reissue uses domed acrylic for its transparent cover. Behind this sits a dial with a checkered pattern along the outer perimeter reminiscent of a racing flag waving at the finish line.
The seconds hand takes the distinctive shape of a speedometer needle, painted in bright orange. Other dial details include a crosshair pattern, faceted silver-tone hour markers, and a date window at 3 o'clock positioned just beneath the Timex logo.
